Brake Rotor Filing

Postby Frugal McMean on Thu 26/Nov/15 1:58pm

Hi,
I have a pair of avid elixir.. 3 yrs heavy riding. Sintered pads.. new Clarke's. And they are noisy.. singing away.

I have sanded the rotors and the pads are new and clean. Bedded the pads in after sanding.. but after 10 mins heavy braking they start singing again.

So.. what about filing the rotors. I have done one side (the rotor had ridges either side of the pad track).. and will do the other. Anyone ever done this? I could use an angle grinder but I think that would be bad... but it's a bit tiresome filing..

I have ordered new AEGIS rotors.

Replace is the answer once there are decent ridges / worn grooves, get some proper straight full thickness rotors in there.
