Brake Recommendation - Scott Spark 940 - 2015 Model

Postby stevea on Fri 4th Aug 2:35pm

After some advise here if possible.

I have a 2015 Scott Spark 940 which came with the following brakes:

Shimano BR-M615 Disc, 180mm Front and 160mm Rear SM-RT64 CL Rotors

Now, I have this issue when coming down the likes of Rapaki of being a bit harsh on the braking, and seem to stuff my pads and discs really easily.

Are there any recommendations as to what would be better suited to put on the bike to both increase longevity of the brakes, and stopping power?

SLX is always great bang:buck.
Bigger rotors, metallic pads...

You using organic or sintered? If organic, switch to sintered - last longer, handle heat better, but don't bite as well. They conduct heat into the caliper rather than the disc so should help if disks are getting too hot.

Suggest sintered pads with heat sink. e.g. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/nz/e ... prod130823.

Also look at your technique. Are you riding the brakes the entire time or pumping and giving them a chance to cool down. Are you balancing the load between front and back brakes or relying on one brake to do most of the work.

All of this.

Once you know it, it's obvious. If not, it's a revelation.
