Be honest now Zane, it's not exactly an XC bike is it, and yes the vaste majority of Dh crew need to harden up.
My excuse - all that travel is kind to my weary old bones

I ride them on both my trail bike and the big sled, but the lines I take and the level of engagement varies accordingly to the bikes.
still ride like middle aged muppet either way tho

And slowmtb, agree with you on the lots of travel being nice on old bones, also great at covering my less than ideal line choice. Heading up this afternoon if your keen for a few runs fella...

Thanks for the info Trail. And I concur: Both Raadi garden and Lava Flow are quite doable on an XC bike. Just have to ride a bit slow and careful.

An update on the blasting work down Bowenvale Valley

Initial rock rolling and blasting work in Bowenvale valley went well, but it was discovered that more rock blasting is still needed. Bowenvale valley tracks are still threatened by rockfall and likely to be closed for a while yet.

That doesn't come as a great surprise. I wonder if the earthquakes occuring on the Port Hills fault simply had the effect of dislodging rocks that were already loose prior to 4-Sep-10. I suspect that if you keep looking, you'll keep finding loose rocks that are a potential hazard. I'm reminded of the old joke about the 10 seater commuter plane crashing into a cemetery, and rescuers went on to recover 300 bodies.

At what point is the risk is sufficiently mitigated? Once blasting and rolling is completed, or when the aftershock sequence is complete? Or on the 11th of October 2013?

Of course I know nothing about the state of the area. Accordingly I just like to speculate wildly :D .
