Targa Rally is in Wellington on Saturday. Wellington roadies -- it looks like a good day for round the bays and Makara, or build the mojo for Tours de Whitemans/Manawatu on Sunday morning! Akatarawa road is open.

Take extra care on Saturday, there's also the enthusiastic spectator drivers to consider. Who may not have the same skill level as the rally competitors ... :o

The following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic on Saturday 31st October 2009:

finishing at the entrance to Pauatahanui Golf Course, between 10.30am to 5pm

Sat 31 Oct (as clipped off Wellington City Council website). Stuff at thread beginning is from Upper Hutt and Porirua city councils. I feel like Sherlock Holmes -- 'A long training route on Saturday? Elementary, my dear Watson.'

I read Disoriented's post too quickly ... back to detective training school for me!

Got to say that council comms around these closures have been substandard. That said, an event like this makes it difficult to contact stakeholders who are planning on travelling 100k+ via secondary hill routes through several council areas in one morning.

Moar media releases to Vorb ftw.

I agree. I've been on most of those roads in the last week, some more than once, and haven't seen any signs about it at all!

There's a bright orange sign at the bottom of Paekakariki Hill Rd - closed from 10.30 to 5.30. Guess I'll have to spend the day riding

I believe I saw a couple of large orange signs out Makara way but didn't pay enough attention to remember the dates :paranoid:

Makara being the other one I haven't ridden.

Have seen nothing round the bays, Aka's, Moonshine/Haywards, Valleys.

But, I know now unlike 2 years in a row some time ago when I headed to Mangaroa and had to turn back.

There's probably been something in the local rag, but I don't often read it...
