The Mount Isobel Challenge is an annual mountain duathlon which takes place in the picturesque village of Hanmer Springs, 130km NW of Christchurch.

The race is organized by Hanmer Springs Multi-Sport Club as a community fund raiser, and involves an 8km, 1000m ascent mountain-run and a mountain bike ride of approx 22 km, which can be done as two person team or as an individual.

I'm having mad ideas about doing this, will an unfit old bugger like me manage it or will I most likely end up dead on the mountain somewhere?

(the biking bit I'm not too worried about)

That was brutal. I've never been in such pain (or had such epic DOMS the next day)

Victory by default ftw  Juangear heard I was racing and knew he couldn't match my mediocrity.
