Bike Methven Thrilled With Unconditional Sale Of Bike Park

Bike Methven has received fantastic news that the collective community offer put in for the land Mt Hutt Bike Park trails are situated on, has gone unconditional.

The land at the base of Mt Hutt near Methven, went up for sale by tender in January. With uncertainty for the future of the trails under new ownership, Bike Methven actively researched potential ownership models, hoping to find a sympathetic and practical solution.
An offer produced by a collective group of local community members was pulled together by farmer Bruce Sim, and included the Bike Methven club, has been announced as being successful.

“We must take this opportunity to especially thank all of our supporters from near and far that donated into our ‘Give-a-Little’ page so the club could become a shareholder.” Said Bike Methven club president Daniel Burgess.

“Thanks also to the previous landowners who allowed us to continue building trails and ride on their land for the last four years. The new owners group is to be applauded for its vision and community focus also”. Said Mr. Burgess. “Many of the group have no connection with mountain biking at all, but could see the vision of Bruce Sim and Bike Methven to build a strong and viable opportunity for summer activities in Methven”.

“We also wish to deeply thank Bruce Sim, who connected with Bike Methven directly to share his vision, and who could see the benefit that the Bike Park would bring to Methven”. Said Mr. Burgess.

“Bike Methven are truly humbled by the support from everyone who has been in contact and we hope to continue to bring you some more world class riding that the trails are becoming known for. As president, I would also like to acknowledge the hard-working people who have spent countless hours with shovels and rakes, diggers and diesel and more importantly their time in building the network of trails that have been established over the last 15 to 20 years. It is with these volunteers where the vision truly started and has been nurtured since”.

Mr. Burgess continued to say “Bike Methven are absolutely stoked to get to this point. It’s the start of a whole new chapter of not only the riding at Mt Hutt but also the future possibilities of what can happen with the land. The new owners group are very keen to get development of new and exciting summer time activities underway. Stay tuned”.

“Once again, thank you very much to everyone involved in this project for your contributions large or small, it’s been a real privilege to be a part of it”.

Bike Methven is the club who developed the mountain biking trail network and have been running events on the trails for over 15 years. Their website contains further information regarding the club, trails and events.

Sounds great. Now can someone explain how big this park is, who owned it before and what they're going to do with it now?

Map looks good:
