Re: Bike Mechanics Impart Their Wisdom On Vorb

Can anyone tell me in Layman's terms, what it is that dictates how big a gap can be managed with the front chainrings shifting ?

I would like to try running a 24/40 setup, but see repeated recommendations not to exceed a 14 tooth gap.

Eg.... 24/38 22/36 26/39

Cheers

It's the step of the der cage sides, you can exceed the recommended maximum difference but the upshift takes more cable pull.

I got a set for a rebuild I did for a customer at the end of last year
They were good to work with, would trade again
Suppliers are showing two of the aero version available

thanks for that - will look into it

Sure, so long as the frame or adaptor is for a 160 rotor.

I can't find a serial number on my Singular Gryphon. Is it somewhere weird or do they not have them?
I messaged and emailed Singular but haven't heard back.

I like them, until they crap out, then they become a relatively expensive mistake. First one ended up in the wheel, and didn't survive. Second one seems to have got moisture in it, and has not survived festering over the last six months since last use.

That's the info I'm after. Have you come across an alternative that does as good a job? I currently have a couple of small flashers on my seat stay hence why the FibreFlares are attractive.

It's a shame, because they're super easy to move from bike to bike.

Check out Simon's light survey =} http://www.gw.govt.nz/be-safe-be-seen/

Really? I'd have thought cable pull = mostly lateral movement (not so much vertical).

No, second hand about a year ago. It hasn't been ground off or anything, the frame is still pristine around the BB area.

I just heard back from the guy at Singular. It should be on the bottom of the BB shell. I'm out of town so will have to have a better look when I get home.
Maybe it has been covered up well. Seemed legit when I bought it. More likely I'm a bit blind.

For me exceeding it by 2 teeth upshift requires the cage to be out to the extreme and full lever stroke, the cage has to travel further to a farther point on whatever it's arc.
