Aye!

The whole idea of ISIS was to have a "standard" that any manufacturer could make cranks and or BB's for. :)

as others have said isis is all interchangable

just make sure you get the right spindle length - generaly 108mm for road but you can bet someone out there thought using a 113mm (xc triple) would be hilarious

Must I stay with an XTR BB? And are the chainrings specific to XTR cranks?

Any middle ring is fine but you need to use 2mm spacers if you don't use the xtr inner.

does anybody rate the in-line "barrel" adjuster that comes on some roadie gear cables just near the handlebars? - it seems like another thing without a lot of use that could create friction or go wrong to me . . . .

There are good ones and bad ones, but for some set ups (frames with internal routing or without barrel adjusters) they're really good.

Set up right, I'm for them, when they're needed.

does the frame have it's own fder adjuster built into the stop - if not you'll need it, otherwise it's surplus to requirements and is just clutter

no fder(what does that mean?) in the stop. why do i need that when i have the barrel adjuster on the derailleur?

Front derailleurs don't have barrel adjusters.

so it would be useful for the front der cable in the absence of a cable stop adjuster but rear deris ok with just the barrel adjuster
have i got it right?

Also, if frame doesn't have barrel adjusters, they're handy as they allow you to tune gears while you ride along (rather than dismounting and using the adjuster on r/der).
