yeah, different mech tho, the new dura ace doesn't like going much above a 25. it's not just the cage capacity but the how far the parallelogram will stretch.

O rly? even though DA cassettes come up to 28 and the shitmano site says the Rear Der. is good to 28 it doesn't particularly like it? :eh:

No I'm not taking the piss, I am being serious here.

I've worked on any number of team bikes with DA and 27's since 7900 was introduced, and they''ve all shifted fine.

If you can't get it over a 25, you've serviced it wrong, or set it up wrong.

The mechanics job is to make it work. If it takes b-screw, and then works sweet, it was probably designed to work just like that.

not a fan of lots of b screw, i find i messes with the shift in the higher end. that being said, i'm sure when you have a new cassette and chain regularly, shifting is usually pretty tight

So it sounds like it's possible then. At least I won't look like such an arse when I ask for a big range of gears.
Glad to have created some discussion.

Ain't no point in having gears that work exactly 100% perect if you can't ride the bike up the bloody hill tho

So I needs a new chain and these just came on sale
http://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/SACH ... peed-Chain
http://www.torpedo7.co.nz/products/SACH ... peed-Chain
but not sure if I should replace the cassette at the same time. It's only 9 months old (new on a Scale 35) so I assume it's still in pretty good nick. How do I tell ? and which of these would be the better chain. All the componentry on my horse is shimano so I assume the cassette is.

Cheers :)
