Take the headset out of the frame before powdercoating

cheers looks like the cups are a "Raleigh1 3/8" X 26 tpi" dam will have to find someting else to put in there when I get it powdercated?

what should I do about the Headset to protect where headset sits befor powdercaoting?

Any decent powdercoater will have silicon plugs to close off any area where the powdercoat shouldnt go.

My opinion would be to get the head tube (and the BB shell) faced, and tap and face the BB shell after powdercoating is done
That way you're starting with a prepped surface.
Most shops should be able to do this for you

My fellow mechanicalists.

Riddle me this.

With the demise of my loved road frame (thankyou, AirNZ, bastards) I'm going to build up my Gazelle AA Special again. I'm inclined to have the threaded fork (Reynolds 531c) steerer extended by 50-70mm to enable my to use a threadless headset and stem. There are a number of reasons for this.

I've seen forks steerers extended before, but would like to find a welder of sufficient skill and care to ensure it's done properly, and in a decent space of time.

What say ye?

I had the same problem with a giant xtc crabon frame and a shimano xt brake. Ended up having to change the brake for another after trying everything else. Some brake and frame combos just seem to have resonance issues.

I'm sure this helps you in no practical way.

Who is your contact?

I've no experience with Johnny, and want someone I don't have to try hunt down.

I don't really think it needs to be a "bike" builder. Just a competent welder who's not a munt.
