Alright I have a slight problem on my hands, I took my bike out for a ride tonight landed a little rough and have broken a spoke on my rear wheel and the wheel is now slightly ovalled. I have also noticed that the join in the rim is slightly opened only on the outer edge. do I

a) get new spoke and the wheel trued as best as possible and wait for it to blow apart completely, which may or may not result in having to go through with option b
b) new rim and spokes and be done with it.
c) some wise (or not so) option i haven't noticed?

Take it to a good wheelbuilder and get him to assess it as it's impossible to say over the net whether or not it can be saved. If there's any doubt, replace the rim - it's a safety issue.

Yeah that is what I was thinking, its not a bike i use all that often usually just for nipping up to uni of mucking bout the streets with a few mates. The oval is about +-15mm each way. hmmm don't really want to fork out for new rim and relace if I don't have to.

Yeah okay 15mm was way out i just threw in the frame and measured it. It is 3.5 mm between highest and lowest points.I think ill go and get it checked out first thing in the morning, i only use the bike for nipping up to uni and the occasional muck about with mates so even if it does lunch itself after 2 or 3 rides It not the end of the world and I don't have the whole what if aspect in the back of my mind.

Do gears go inside or outside of brakes on the bars?

Depends on the user. My gear levers are outboard of the brakes, i.e. between brake levers and grips.

Now I'm more confused than eva. Ive gone for inside.

i one finger brake too and run my shifters inside my brakes, each to their own tho. i like to have my shifters well out of the way so i don't knock em.
