Yknow its astonishing how well the model works
Friend of mine , big brain , uni lecturer - got a "half price" bike from BB.
It worked out about the same or slightly cheaper that you would pay for similar elsewhere, But he was STOKED. totally didn't get it that it was just a marketing ploy.
Ironically, his wife is a MARKETING lecturer.

There are, or used to be, a law about fake discounts. Teh goods have to have been offered for sale at the alleged full price within the last 6 months I think.
"New" products can possibly be created by insignificant changes, thus erasing the history of their normal price.

Ah-ha! I have had a similar experience with a similar person.

As far as I can tell, it's still a good deal to them because they treat the RRP as an absolute, when you point out comparative bikes it gets rationalized as "oh well, this brand I've just bought is obviously much MUCH better than those other ones"

Example: A bicycle retailer advertised closing down sales at two of its stores but had no plans to close down either store. The retailer brought in extra stock for the sales and kept the sales running for several months. The Commission issued the company with a warning.

This amuses me.

It's all a little amusing really isn't it? It's like they don't even want to be taken seriously; "comcom" as a website address must have been an internal joke.

RE: Bike Barn.

Want to buy a new indoor trainer.
Purchase off online site and pick up in-store = ~$600
Purchase directly off the floor in-store = ~$800

WTF? :eh:

Well if you didn't know about the online price they would have cleaned an extra $200 out of ya. That ain't no wtf to them! But I'm sure if you walk in and say "I'll take it at the online price" they'd have done that for you, though probably would have grumbled something about not 'normally' doing that...

Fundamentally if someone is going to outright lie about the rrp then they are probably going to try to shaft you in other ways too.

Assuming (I don't know) their click and collect operates the same way as others.

The $600 price is based on stock delivered (overnight?) to the store from warehouse stock.
The $800 price is have it now, premium retail space stock in store.

Is that difference worth $200? Whose to say but there is a difference.

There is a whole dropship from the wholesaler model around. If the shop does not actually have to have the stock sitting there they charge much less to simply clip the ticket of it basically being ordered straight from the distributor. Not sure if that is what happened in this case?
