To a point Baboon, i must say i would rather not go to a fish n chip shop who sells "quality McCain fries" etc. because they tend to give you a measly amount...

We used to go there just before closing and they would often throw in heaps of extra food in

Thats one of the reasons I used to go there :sly: When I regularly indulged in such dubious foods, we'd often have extra fish appearing in the order

Biggest scoop of chips I remember was in Geraldine, they were kinda average but it was HUGE. Best chips would be Akaroa or Ilam Road.

We ordered chips at Ferment bar once, 13 bucks for a bowl and they were like "are you sure its a pretty big bowl?". It sure was a big bowl, with about 12 chips in it!

After having a meal at Aggie's Shack here in Qtown, i don't think i could bring myself to eat regular fish and chips again... freshest fish ever, despite being so far from the sea... not super cheap but a huge portion.

I wonder how popular/available seafood is in landlocked countries/ US states?

a good tip for those who dont know -

most of the time, they give you more potato fritters then you ordered

my cousins (family of 6) used to order 2 scoops and 6 potato fritters, and would open up and usually find 10+ potato fritters (they always went to the same one)

In my previous life i worked in a fish and chip shop. Before escaping to Wellington to study. My parents own one. you can call me expert. :D
To define a scoop of chips its pretty much one portion of chips. Will also depend on the size of the scooper, if they even use one. We just filled up one small basket, that was our scoop.

My mum does this, as the size of the potato fritters arnt all the same as potatos arent cylinder shaped.

would u like fries with that?

Na, Depends how the less caring the chefs/cookers are. Or how generous they feel.

Unless your a well known customer that we can easily recognise.

Yeah - I agree with mr face. Large serve, and tasty chunty wedges stylez at aro street. I've also had good experiences at wellington trawling on cuba street at the chippy in wadestown (my local). Half a scoop always seems to be the same amount as a full one.

Kaiapoi fush and chups do good chips, big chunky ones cut from real potatoes, we usually get 2 scoops of chups and between me, the wife, my daughter and 2 hungry boys we can't eat them all

Biggest chip scoop is definitely in belmont, $2 will get you enough to feed 3-4 people.
