(BEIJING, September 13 - 2007) -- The extension work for Laoshan Mountain Bike Course completed recently under the precondition of maintaining the original landscapes and plants.

The course is waiting for the forthcoming "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Mountain Bike Invitational Competition on September 22, 2007.

Laoshan Mountain Bike Course keeps a natural view

Laoshan Mountain Bike Course includes two new competition service buildings, remedy for 4.6 kilometer course and fixture for the starting and finishing areas.

The construction of the course makes use of the natural landscape of Laoshan Mountain and does not even use concrete and steel for consolidation but instead uses weaving bags with soil in them.

The extension work for the course was conducted under the principle of keeping the original landscape and plants in order to embody the spirit of a "People's Olympics" and "Green Olympics."

Shorter course to add enjoyment value

Mountain Bike became an event of the Olympic Games in 1996. Its course is uneven since mountain bikes use flat tires.

In order to improve the enjoyment value and competitiveness, technical officials of Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) suggested that in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the course should be shortened and difficulties increased.

The course will be open to the general public

Laoshan used to be the training center for China's national cycling team. After the Olympic Games, the 4.6 kilometer Mountain Bike Course will be open to the general public for exercise.

Reforestation for Laoshan surroundings is under way

The reforestation work for the Laoshan surroundings is proceeding smoothly, including Laoshan Velodrome and Mountain Bike Course.

On the southwest side of Laoshan, a lot of flowers and trees have been planted. The southeast part gives prominence to the natural view.

In the north, wield plantings have been cleared and a small amount of green plants have been added.
