School Holidays Riding
All trails are now open. FIELDMOUSE which is a beginners trail was closed whilst a new drain was placed across it to take water from the new Wastewater Treatment station to a drain. It has been grassed over and new road metal put on it to let you ride it. Grass is cut and reeds cut too. Many of the reeds are now poisoned, so that will keep the derailleur's from damage.

Currently the SCRATCHY LANE trail is being remetalled and upgraded so it is not so wet for younger riders. TOP HAT trail has been in the news. Not because of the trail and the great riding it offers but because of the fine stand of Kauris that are half way along it. Well worth a visit. Being a new trail it is muddy in parts but some of it has been surface boarded with chicken netting on top to stop you sinking in too far as you climb and road metal will be put on the clay in the next few weeks. All this work has been done by a Corrections Department team, and is a mighty big help to us.

The new "extreme" graded trails of HI OCTANE and RATTLESNAKE are not really rideable in the winter. They have a lot of bush and trees to stop the wind and sun getting in to dry them out. They are open but can be very muddy. The lake in the quarry floor of PARK LANE trail is flooded but easily ridden. Dirt ramps have been added to the drop offs in the FUN ZONE so the bike wheels do not get bent when landing.

Message to parents.
Young children can have a lot of fun on the easy and beginners trails. You can watch them from a car in the car park or you can walk some of the trails in the bush and paddock with the lambs. A few hours of real pleasure.

Looking ahead.
We are about to seek funding for purchase of materials to complete the safety signage on the new trails, drainage and timber for a deck on the BMX, and materials for gates at the bridge crossings so that riders do not have to lift bikes over the grating that stops sheep crossing the bridge. These will help improve the facilities. We are still working on getting help to complete the BMX track. The basics are done but we still need a digger for a day to complete the hills and wall. Needless to say, even the bit in place now is being ridden extensively.

As soon as our sponsors for this year are finalized, we will be issuing on the web page a complete trail map, and also a complete trail and grading description summary for those who want to know what is on offer. We will also print off more copies of the trail map on waterproof paper.

Our financial accounts to 30 May 2008 are completed and show a small loss for the year. As in the past the main costs are rent, insurance and trail building costs. Without our sponsors and supporters with their donations, we could not continue. The Annual General Meeting will be held soon and you will get details of it.
