Reports have come in that the Pro-Velo Auckland 1000 has been cancelled because of the extreme weather in the North Island this weekend.

Update: (26-07-08):
Sunday’s Pro-Velo Auckland 1000 cycle race, the first round of the new National Road Series, has been postponed until Sunday 31 August. Gale force winds are still forecast in Auckland for tomorrow, so the decision has been made early not to run the event tomorrow (Sunday 27 July).
Latest Update (24-7-08)

Changed course – Due to continued road works at Kingseat we will be racing on a revised and shortened version of the course used for the Club Road Nationals last October. It is only 15.7 kms to the lap so the race distances are now.-

A grade – 8 laps – 126 kms
Women & B grade – 5 laps – 79 kms
C grade & U17s – 3 laps – 47 kms

Changed start times – (U17s, Women & B grade are all significantly different from those originally advertised)
Under 17 – 10.15am
C grade – 10.25am
A grade – 11am
B grade – 11.25am
Women – 11.30am

Registration -Sign on will open at 9am in the Karaka Sportsground pavilion in Blackbridge Rd. This is the complex that was used at the Club Nationals. DO NOT go to the hall on the corner. It is suggested you allow a little more time to prepare before your race to allow the fitting of an electronic timing transponder to your bike. Hand in your license to receive the transponder and race number. Return the transponder and number after racing to retrieve your license.

Electronic timing- Times7, a Hawkes Bay company, will be providing electronic timing for the event. This system was used at the elite road nationals in January and at the Tour of Southland last year.

Feeding – feeding of riders is only allowed in the A grade – senior men’s event and only at the end of laps 4, 5, 6 and 7 at the designated feeding zone

Prizegiving – U17s & C grade – 12.30pm
A, B grade & women – 2.45 pm

We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

The Auckland 1000 is the 1st event of the BikeNZ/CNZ National Points Series. For more information on the series go to www.bikenz.org.nz/nps
