Here are the results from round 2 of the Wellington XC Short Track Sereis held yesterday at Wainui.
This is a fundraising event for Lisa Morgan (wgtngrl) to assist with her trip to the US and Canada, followed by Australia from June to August 2008. You can find out more at www.lisamorganmtb.com.
Round 2 of the Short Track Series was held in Wainui, close to the trails which hosted the recent PNP Club XC Champs. The course was less technically demanding than the Karori Park course of round 1 but had a mix of long, flat straights and technical turns with plenty of gravel thrown in for extra skids! In stark contrast to round 1, round 2 was dogged by persistant showers ensuring the puddles were kept full and every rider on the course got a share of mud coverage.
The grey skies meant numbers were down but the hardy crew who came out and raced were rewarded with another fun course and plenty of laughs throughout the event. Ricky declined to repeat his now twice-infamous 'botty grinder' as demonstrated in round 1, chosing instead to entertain the crowd with technicolour yawns off in the bushes after turning a sicker shade of green in each lap of the elite race before retiring.
The fairplay award will NOT be presented to Gav McCarthy, winner of the elite grade on the day, or Tom Bradshaw - hands on your own brake levers boys!
Burglar of the day was a tie between Clive Bennett taking out B grade with another comfortable margin, and Jeff Lyall winning the granny gear race with a 26 tooth little chain ring.
Finally, biggest field of the day went to the girls who had an exciting race with numerous position changes and a tight finish between Celia Lie and Rachel Ocklefield.
Photographer this round was Pete (AKA VERT) and pics can be found here.
Huge thanks once again to sponsors Bicycle, Santa Cruz, IO, Ricky Pincott for being course master (that's right, blame him), Marco from PNP for the use of so much gear, and Hutt City Council for granting permission to use the land. Also to Shane and Jude for the ezi-ups (much appreciated in the rain) and Shane and Gav for accompanying Lisa on the '4 hours of hills' after the event |
