Mountainbike NZ are leading a sponsorship and fundraising drive for the 31 strong NZ MTB Team competing in Val di Sole, Italy 17-22nd June.
A limited BikeNZ budget is being utilised to meet Elite Cross Country and Downhill high performance objectives, with further coverage required for the essential support and resources the full Team needs to ensure all our athletes have the best possible chance of success at this pinnacle event.
MTBNZ aim to raise enough funding to allow an effective Team Management structure to be put in place, as well as providing world class mechanical support for all athletes. Depending on the success of this drive, athlete subsidies to offset the significant campaign costs carried by the athletes themselves may also be applied.
Already, contributions are coming in from MTBNZ event organisers. "I aim to set a precedent with a portion of the Oceania MTB Champs subsidy being allocated to the 2008 World Champs campaign" said Chris Mildon, event organiser of the recent championship event.
"I personally wish the team all the best for the coming campaign" this from Hamish McCrostie, Manager of Coronet Peak (NZSki Limited) who also contributed a portion of their subsidy from the South Island Cup events they hosted in January.
Other contributions from the Wellington MTB Club (2008 National DH Champs host), and Simon & Cindy Hampton, (Arrowsmith South Island XC Cup host) have also been generously donated to the cause.
Any contribution will be greatly appreciated by the NZ MTB Team, MTBNZ and by extension the vast NZ MTB Community. Additionally, there is opportunity for corporate level sponsorship of the Team, so if you are a business or know of a business that may be interested in considerable international exposure via our exciting sport, dedicated Kiwi athletes, and the World MTB Champs, please get in touch.
Please contact MTBNZ President Chris Mildon for information on how contributions can be made or for further information.
