A hard day's night in the Redwoods...
February 23 and 24.

There was light drizzle, mild temperatures and a challenging 12.8 kilometres course, featuring classic Whakarewarewa Forest single-track, for the 2008 edition of the Nzo 24 hours of Rotorua and, for the first time this year, the Ay-Up Lights 12 hours.

The atmosphere was as relaxed as ever, but the competition was fierce. Andrew Fellows, from Australia rode an amazing 26 laps (or 332 kms) to take out the 24 hour Solo category and bike shop sponsor, Bike Vegas, won overall with 33 laps (422 kms). They took home the magnificent Maori carving for first place.

Bike Vegas team rider, Garth Weinberg, also rode the fastest lap of 36.44, on his singlespeed. He laid this benchmark down on the first lap of the race and, while many took up the challenge, no one beat it over the following 23 hours and 23 and a bit minutes.

Bike Vegas owner, Dave Joy, commented that the team was a multinational crew with an English manager, two North Americans, an “old fella” (legendary bike mechanic, Dale Hollows) and a space alien (Garth Weinberg).
