Blue Mountain Gorges Challenge
6th April 2008

The Blue Mountain Gorges Challenge is a 60km MTB ride suitable for most levels of ability. It requries few technical skills, but modertae fitness levels. The ride starts at the same time as the Marathon but heads off in the opposite direction. Both races eventaully join up for the finishing part of the race.

The Blue Mountains route starts at Peel Forest Hall and follows shingle roads for several kms before it heads up the Orari Gorge to Lochaber, where you take a left turn and head off through Blue Mountain Station, Bernards and Andrews Streams and finally over the Scotsburn Range before a long easy descent back to Peel Forest.

There is 1000 metres of altitude gain and loss - that means a bit of uphill but also plenty of downhills.

in 2007 the first home was Mark Richards in 3 hours 19 minutes. A great ride considering he is still a junior.

Once back at the Peel Forest Hall, you can dry off, take a shower and enjoy delicious hot soup and buns provided by the local Plunket.

Prize giving for both events starts 3pm. Plenty of spot prizes from our great sponsors Air Safaris, WTB, Race Face, Central South Island Tourism, The Cyclery, Rangitata Rafts and Ground Effect.
