If you've got a phone that can take and send PXTs you should be able to send photos to Vorb direct from your phone. We've been testing this functionality for the past few weeks and it works well for recent phones on Telecom and Vodafone.

QUICK CONFIGURATION
Send a PXT to vorb.@.myssage.net and you should receive a TXT with the correct PXT 2 Vorb configuration settings.

NORMAL INSTRUCTIONS
1.) Go to http://www.vorb.org.nz/ac-sms.html and fill in the relevant information.

2.) Send a PXT to vorb.@.myssage.net

3.) If your PXT is successful You should receive a TXT in about 5 minutes.

4.) View your photo at: http://www.vorb.org.nz/photos-album-all.html

5.) Those of you who use Mobile Vorb ( http://mobile.vorb.org.nz ) will notice an option appears to add PXTs to your posts.

Photos may take up to 5 minutes to appear. Tama has set up an error logger so we should have a fairly good idea about what is going wrong and why.

SETTING UP YOUR PHONE
Your phone must be able to send PXT via e-mail (we haven't come across a PXT phone that can't). Because of the differences between Telecom and Vodafone PXTs we can not have it so you just send the PXT to a phone number.

To enable your phone to send PXT via e-mails check out these links:

Please help us with troubleshooting by putting the full name and model of your phone here: http://www.vorb.org.nz/ac-sms.html

TROUBLESHOOTING
The most common problems we've experienced so far are:

Incorrect PXT E-mail Address
If your phone number is 696969 your PXT e-mail address is most likely 6421696969@pxt.vodafone.net.nz for Vodafone or +6427696969@mms.xtra.co.nz for Telecom. If your photo hasn't appeared after 5 minutes send a PXT to your own e-mail and make sure that your PXT e-mail address is entered correctly here: http://www.vorb.org.nz/ac-sms.html

PXT Not Attached To E-mail
Some phones/ services send a link to the photo rather than attaching the PXT to the e-mail. These will not work, but you may be able to solve it by talking with your phone company. To test this send a PXT to your own e-mail - if you only receive a clickable link then it will not work with PXT 2 Vorb.

Big Photo Files
Some of the more expensive phones have high quality cameras that send very large files. We've found that shooting photos at 640x480 to 1024x768 gives the best performance for PXT 2 Vorb activities. These setting correspond to 0.3-1.0 megapixels. Your phone should have settings that allows you to adjust the size of your picture down to size. It makes things a lot faster to!

Note: Larger photos will be compressed and resampled by the Vorb server so sending them will not give you better quality.
