It's all on in Rotorua - the Oceania Champs are here along with a sizable wedge of the Kiwi mountain biking population.

Riders and spectators are still arriving with the current count for entries coming in at 240 for the DH on Sunday, 210 for the XC on Saturday and 50 for the BSX this evening. With a constant stream of the "On The Day" entries these numbers are bound to climb.

Lots of riders equals lots of action, it also equals a higher chance of carnage - hoorah! Hardtail riders with rugby shirts are mixing with World Champions like Fabien Bariel and the slopes are alive with riders and supporters comparing notes on the best tactics and lines.

Pick a line, any line

Weather wise a warm sou-wester has been drying out the courses and kicking up dust. Fingers crossed the wind will drop off for the BSX this evening as the first quarter of the race is pretty darn exposed. We were up on the BSX course last night during an impromptu practise and it was getting close to dust storm levels on some sections.

Sam Blekinsop hussing the BSX

The steep sections of the downhill course have been completely cut up with quite a few riders getting swamped in dust piles and nailing themselves on a fairly regular basis. If I was any good at identifying riders I'd be able to tell you who's looking fast. But there's a good collection of Kiwis, Aussies and random overseas gurus totally hussing.
