The event will tie in with the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in Melbourne a couple of weeks later - so expect a healthy turn out of Commonwealth XC riders. The 2006 Oceania Championships will allow further fine tuning and tweaking of the courses.
The Oceania Cycling Federation has announced that teams outside the Oceania Federation will be eligible to compete (though not win titles) at the 2006 Oceania Mountain Bike Championships.
The Melbourne Commonwealth are just days later. So there will be a huge incentive for teams from top cycling countries like Canada and the four British nations to enter their cross-country teams. They get a preview of what they will be racing on for World titles six months later and Oceania '06 will be an excellent chance to get race-hardened for
Melbourne coming out of the Northern Hemisphere winter.
Although Downhill and 4X are not included in the Commonwealth Games, the ‘06 Oceanias should also feature top fields in these, as well. Riders from Europe and North America will want to take advantage of their off-season to race on world championship courses under summer sun.
