$13 for FOUR fucking litres of chainsaw bar lube. Dougal's (some may remember him) recommendation, hasnt failed for years.

not at all. i've used chainsaw bar lube for about 5 years now. it works a treat. just like Rocknroll etc, you put it on, not too much, and then wipe it all off as best as you can, it lasts longer, doesnt pick up that much crap, and is nice and cheap. AND i've gotten way more life out of my chains than i ever did using Rock'n'Roll.

Dougal used to mooch around on these forums years ago, and on Mountainbike.co.nz, but now he's on derailled... he always swore by chainsaw bar lube.

I would stick with the advice of the mechanics, they see a range of punters. Not just text book cases.
As for CRC in a can, well it certainly does the job as a general purpose lube/penitrating spray. There are specific lubes and solutions, just as these wax lubes are shit on anything else than a bike chain.
Hey I always thought Automotive brake cleaner was a cleaner. Not a way to find leaks in pipes/manifolds or engine starter

amongst other things.

I use the same 'spray wax' chain lube I used when racing motocross (Spectro Chain Wax) - spray it on liberally, crank things up to work it in well, and then wipe off the excess with a rag.
