Arch Hill Hot Lap Series

Postby faceless on Wed 14/Jul/10 9:15pm

It's what you've been waiting for!!!

Mountain Bike Time Trial on purpose-built trails in the middle of the city!!

Monday Nights for 4 weeks... Come ride your bike while every other poor sod sits in traffic trying to get home!!!

First night is Monday the 19th of July, last night is the 9th of August.

Nightly Schedule:
6pm - Registration and practice begins
7pm - Timed runs start
7.45pm - Last registrations taken
8.15pm - Nightly prize-giving

Nightly prizes for fastest male and female lap. Series prizes for fastest average male and female lap across the series. In the spirit of single speed world champs coming up in October, we'll also run a single speed category.

We also have spotties (what would a nite series be without them?) and we even have 2 sets of AYUP lights to give away for major series spotties... The more weeks you enter, the better chance you have of winning!!!

Big thanks to our series sponsors:
Ayup Lights
Bike 75
Auckland Mountain Bike Club
Spoke Magazine
Grind Coffee

$12 per rider (or $10 if you are an Auckland Mountain Bike Club or Department of Cycling member... please bring your membership card)

Please bring cash as there is NO EFTPOS available.

Parking is available on and around Tay Street (just off Great North Road), but please consider the residents and the environment and ride to the venue if possible.

Make sure you bring a front white light capable of lighting the trail at least 20m in front of you (AYUPs would be perfect!), a rear red light, and a helmet.

Updates and info will be available on Megan's Blog at http://megandimozantos.blogspot.com/201 ... eries.html or on the event facebook page (I'm not sure how to insert hyperlinks here, but if you search "Arch Hill Hot Lap Series" on facebook, you should be able to find us!).

Proceeds go towards travel and entry fees for Megan Dimozantos to race and conquer overseas this year. Thanks for your support!!!

SEE YA THERE!!!

What are those trails like? We used to live in Commercial Road before moving to Rotovegas. Often thought some MTB trails would be good there.

Rode them once a few weeks ago, I found they didn't flow to well, more sort of tighter technical riding with narrow track and switchbacks etc. Reasonably short but better than nothing as Auckland really lacks any inner city trails! Hopefully more tracks appear like this round the city.

Here's the telemetry on the track. Nite flying laps will be interesting

Thanks Kel - interesting stuff.
Hey, has anyone else thought about a short course DH in Western Park? I know it a unique arboretum but if terrain was restored, afterwards, it'd be a corker spectator event. Super-D style so not just for DH rigs. Maybe even best up-down time?
We used to walk our mutts there and often considered sneaking in on bikes at night!

Yep, night laps should be interesting... It is starting to get a bit muddy in there in places , wait untill there has been a dozen riders over the course a couple of times!! I went for a recce when it was being built, it was very dry and unstable then, now stable but slippery!! The AKMTB has been asked to assist with maintainence...and it will need it now. On the plus side, it was great to see it being well used today by a wide range of people, build more trails in Auckland.
