Men

1. Carl "The Deckerator" Decker (in black Borat-kini and full gimp mask and cape...)
2. Mark Weir (on tricked out full sus Santa Cruz)
3. Barry Wicks (in gold Speedo and cape)
16. Garth Weinberg (NZ)

Women
1. Rachel Lloyd
2. Annika Smail (NZ - 39th overall)
3. Linda Eckhart (two times World Singlespeed Champ)

Marla Streb also raced but not sure where she came or times or other people's places - that would be way too organized!

Carl is a great guy and seeing him, Weir and Wicks on the rocky fast downhill descents was amazing. Great skill also from Garth. I was on on of these sections as he came through on his last lap and he was smoking.

He didn't have a great start because of bike placement in the pile up before the run. Plus the "Go" call came right in the middle of the organizer's briefing - in fact mid-sentence!. Garth was around 50th back to start'finish on the bike. Tough to recover from that on a steep gravel grovel and a 1st section of trail that was rocky and 20% plus gradient (and long!).

Rachel, Annika and Linda also showed amazing skills on the downhills.
We had a good chat to Decker after the race and tattooing was over. We also presented him with a Rotorua Singlespeed Society T-shirt. Like Linda Eckhart, Carl said he'd be keen to race in a Singlespeed Worlds in NZ.

Check out his report here (with photo on page 2). Garth Weinberg finished 16th overall. Results are not yet posted at the event website http://www.sswc08.com/
