Actors "equity": What A Bunch Of Retards

Postby Henry Dorset Case on Thu 21/Oct/10 9:36am

Just listening to the well-lnown Communist, Helen Kelly, trying to justify fucking up a large and much needed boost to our economy.

The worst thing about this is how naive the bloody actors are here: And allowing themselves to be captured by the australian unions is just pathetic.

Warners and New Line will be thinking "Oh, sure, they've taken the ban away for now, bet they wait till we're half or three quarters of the way thru principal photography and pull the same stunt. Given the money at stake (and how hard it was to raise it) the hell with that, we'll go to Romania.

Convert a bunch of drachmas or whatever, ship a bunch of the ready built stuff (props, sets) in containers, scout locations, everyone relocates for a ten week holiday (or however long), bring all the footage back for post production at Weta, bada boom bada bing easy.

What a bunch of fucking amateurs: talk about fuck yourself up the arse: but in doing so, also fuck another bunch of people.

$5 says its shot offshore.

Actor's union guy said on Stuff wrote:“Nobody wants Cate Blanchett’s salary, nobody wants that. The difference is I’m a hobbit, you’re a hobbit, you come from America or England and you work on the same production, side by side, and we work under completely different terms and conditions. Is that fair?”

kind of irrelevant isnt it? if there's no movie I mean: these amateurs just completely underestimated their opposition, and their own strength. They're fucked.

So now both actors might get to work in Romania, for whatever passes for currency there: drachmas? goats heads? or you know, they can save a bunch on orc makeup by just using the locals.

I'd like to see the actual figures and condition differences before I pass comment.

[Helen Kelly on her megaphone march] When I say Union!! you say Power!!

[HK]Union!
[Actors] Power!

[HK] Union!
[Actors] Power!

[HK] When I say Union!! you say Power!!

[HK] Onion!
[Actors] Face!

Unions are generally good for the workers, and bad for the economy...nageM. So depends whether you personally are affected by the wages, or you want to sit back and reap the reputational and economic rewards. this will determine your attitude towards this

THE HOBBIT was going to be the first NZ production to do profit participation.

Shouldn't unions be going after the bad employers, not the best employers?

Very well said Cruiser..
Its like a lot of things in life people support causes unless they feel it directly affects them, I see no difference in the actors going on strike to the teachers going on strike, however some people will support the teachers but not the actors because supporting the teachers has no consequence for them.

I'm not saying the union is not at fault. I'd just like to know whether they actually have something valid to argue about... or not... before I say anything. Just saying that I require more information.

You are too sensible and mature for Vorb nageM

It all depends who you care about more. individual worker rights, or the big picture...there has to be a middle ground. But sometimes unions use their collective power unfairly.

I just hope the can mediate well and keep it here. I personally have friends involved in the movie, and wifey might be massaging them. And everytime I ride my bike through Mt Vic I see the flow-on effect of the LOTR.

Not that this affects me directly, but it's nice to see.

I often find myself hiding down off the side of the track, waiting for those pesky ring-wraiths to piss off... they really give me the shits they do.
