Wellington Trail Conditions

Koru, Sally Alley, Ridgeline Ext, Swigg, Starfishposted 4 days ago by Scotty
Dry and fasssssst.

Corners are loose as goose with heaps of gravel, so check your tyres and watch how much you've got the bike leaned over!

Karapotiposted 4 days ago by way_downsouth
Whole course is in great condition. Especially Deadwood.

Same old puddles, but it is Karapoti

Ecnz Pylon Track - Stokes Valley To Wainui Hillposted 6 days ago by JKS
The Kingsley Street track leading to the main track gets narrow and is quite overgrown. The logging clearing at the end of this track means the usual exit is blocked and you have to haul your bike up a steep bank to the left (helped by a rope tied around a tree - thanks someone!!) to get around the wall of felled trees. Finding the next turnoff to avoid ending up in Whitemans Valley is also a bit cryptic (the previous route is blocked by the clearing work so just hunt around for a side track). Once on the main pylon track it's mainly dry, only a few puddles. Good ride, the views make it all worthwhile.

Mt Vic Nixc Cup Single Tracksposted 9 days ago by ryda
running fast and bone dry

Trickle Fallsposted 9 days ago by CrustyMTB
In fine fettle, the rain has freshened up the dusty sections up top and hasn't made too much difference down in the stream. The "trickle falls" drop was getting a bit tame as the transition grew, but happily the stream has washed the debris away from the bottom and it is back to being rollable but still a tad scary.

If you haven't ridden TF before the conditions now are as good as you'll get.

Wellington Deliverence, Santuary, Fencelineposted 10 days ago by cruiser
fenceline normal rutted self,
Deliverence has a trickle stream running thru top section, greasy but fun thru rest.
Sanctuary is overgrown with weed, the odd gorse or blackberry. I've come out a bit itchy from the grass being wet. Don't ride in short sleeves etc if you're allergic to grass:) otherwise it's fine.

Mt Victoriaposted 15 days ago by wachtourak
Rather moist after the recent rain. Deceptively so in fact. Lacking surface water/puddles in most places but very slippery due to lots of leaves and crud over the track in some places. Some care needed.

Karapoti Challenge Courseposted 16 days ago by JKS
Did it on Saturday 20th Dec (very very wet day!) apart from the constant puddles and the fact that the creek near the start in Karapoti gorge that had risen substantially by the time we got back it was still the best way to spend a rainey afternoon! Everywhere is very wet and slippy though. Am still grinning on Sunday morning {Big Grin}

Trickle Fallsposted 22 days ago by JK2
first left hander at the bottom of the first drop is a bit loose and hard to get around. must have seen a bit of traffic last weekend. rest of the track in great condition. dry and fast.

Chartwell/ Skyline/ Karori Cemeteryposted 22 days ago by Oli
Awesome and dry, with a hint of cow poo on Skyline to keep you honest, and some low trees to scone yourself on in the bush...Great fun.

Mt Lowryposted 22 days ago by NZBound
Super dry and o so good

Salvationposted 25 days ago by Monolith
The top third of Salvation is a bit overgrown at the moment - lots of blackberry and some bush lawyer creeping over the track. This stuff rips anything - gloves, tops, and skin. Lower section is awesome, heaps of grip and good conditions.

Tip Track And Boundary Fenceposted 25 days ago by Monolith
All riding nicely. The Tip Track doesn't have much of a "line" at the moment, but is still offering decent traction.

There are a couple of wee puddles around the boundary fence, but most parts of the trail are dry and grippy.

Get out there {Double Thumbs Up}

Mt Vicposted 25 days ago by Monolith
Trails are dry and fast - nothing too exciting to report, but the singletrack sections are still as awesome as ever.

Spoon/491/b-lineposted 25 days ago by NZBound
Running nice and fast................

Roller Coaster And Carpartsposted 39 days ago by Yogi
Nice and dry, running fast. One big puddle by house on Roller Coaster and watch out on downhill only section for water channels freshly dug across the track (they'll buck you)

Long Gully, Jaw Bone And Race Lineposted 40 days ago by NigeS
Jaw Bone is running sweet! The rain over the past few days has packed it down a treat.

Race Line is all good too, except for a little pig rooting (as in digging) on the track at the bottom of the pig shoot. It's all good though and totally ride-able, just a little disconcerting on the first run.

Bring on the shuttle day!!

Mt Vicposted 43 days ago by Jimi
Perfect! Couldn't be better than it is at the moment. We have moved the fallen tree off the run up to the small log drop.

Karapotiposted 46 days ago by Mr_Wiggles
Has anyone tried Karapoti lately?

Last report on-line from gunslinger in Sept was "wet... very muddy and cut up by 4WD traffic" with two major trees down. Any change since then?

ta,
Wiggles

Belmontposted 46 days ago by haggleman
Super dry, super fast, very little mud/soft patches.

Mt Victoriaposted 53 days ago by wachtourak
Dry. Dusty.

Ttposted 62 days ago by gunslinger
filthy to the point of invigorating

Otari-wiltons Bushposted 67 days ago by psychavoc
From the WCC: Just a reminder that mountain biking is not permitted in any areas of Otari-Wilton's Bush. It can actually be quite dangerous for walkers and we have had several complaints about it recently. Could all mountain bikers/ cyclists please keep to the skyline track and those exit tracks where bikes are allowed.

Mt Climieposted 78 days ago by Grumpyoldman
Mt Climie is a graded 4WD track, so is rideable any time.
How rideable is really only dependent on fitness.

Mt. Climieposted 78 days ago by SID
i cant see any updates and reports about riding mount climie. is there someone riding at mount climie?

Windmill - Rollercoaster/ Carparksposted 83 days ago by feist
All very nice.

Some new drains on the rollercoaster where the jumps are. Visually a bit off putting, but actually fine.

Rimutaka Incline As At Saturdayposted 84 days ago by freshjive
The track is partially washed out about 30 metres on the cross creek side of Tunnel three (Prices Tunnel). It's still rideable but there is a slight overhang and a drop of a couple of metres, so be careful coming out of the tunnel.
Conditions from Maymorn to Cross Creek carpark are gernerally pretty good and dry but Siberia has washed out a little with recent rains, you can still walk through ok. The single track to the cross creek carpark, while dry, has a couple of dried up water run offs crossing it and the odd bit of tree litter from winds/rain, no biggie though.

3 Sistersposted 85 days ago by implant
A lot of leaf litter, windfall and punga around, but otherwise 'tis the shizzle. Bottom* sister offers a great ride, as usual... {Smile}. Couple of trees down but on the whole a lot more open than i thought it would be.

seiboobposted 85 days ago by implant
Pretty scoured out at the bottom half, worse than it was at end of last summer. However, still being a bit damp its actually riding really well. Toitoi out the bottom is relatively light too.

Upper Ridgelineposted 85 days ago by benw
Stunning day today up the Peak. Hardly a breath of wind. Hot. Fast. Nice.

Maidstone Max, Upper Huttposted 85 days ago by haggleman
Very good conditions, dry almost all of the way down. Only a couple of small mud puddles on the surface but nothing to write home about. Some new work done in the corners, so watch your skids.

Koru, Sally Alley, Swigg, Starfish, Lazy Fernposted 88 days ago by DrewBroadley
Rode last night, perfectly sticky. All puddles have gone, and all boggy parts are dry enough to not take any pace off you.

Koru, Sally Alley, Ridgeline Ext, Swigg, Starfishposted 91 days ago by tylersdad
Excellent. Tacky in a few sheltered spots. This rain tonight should not affect it and will still be good riding on 7/10. - looking outside some 12 hours after posting i retract my last comment. anyone out riding needs their head read !!!! {Tongue it}

T3 - Vertigoposted 92 days ago by Karearea
Muddy and slippy everywhere, recommend you wait for it to dry out a little!

Danzigposted 92 days ago by Hoz
Super wet and mushy - please stay away until we get a decent run of dry weather cos' we are digging the ruts out during October and too much traffic will wreck our work - Cheers, Ranger Hoz

Ridgeline -> Livewiresposted 93 days ago by -Reaper-
Extremley windy at peak. (duh)
Tacky surface where sheltered. Dry elsewhere. However, looks like it is about to rain.

Mt Vicposted 94 days ago by SlackBoy
The Lovely boggy bit on the ridgeline nearish the top has had the drains cleared out somewhat by an incredibly handsome and intelligent chap. Should take a while to dry out fully tho.

Deliveranceposted 95 days ago by Jono
Rode though at about 9pm last night (2 october). The top stream-bed section is well, a bit more on the treacherous end of the scale. The rest of the track was holding together well.

A bit of overgrowth in some areas - I'll need to get down there with a scrub cutter at some point.

Danzigposted 95 days ago by albeer
a slippery climb with walking sections at some hair pins ,some parts qutie grippy, wet pine needles and clay love it!

Trickle Fallsposted 96 days ago by faux_name
Sweet as, a bit greasy due to light rain and hail, but good overall condition

Wtp - Labyrinthposted 96 days ago by pinkmaggit
Really Good condition right now. Despite rain, fast flowing and relatively dry. Great either direction.

Wtp - Beelineposted 96 days ago by pinkmaggit
Large puddles in places, take care not to wear trail with excessive skidding.

Mt. Vicposted 96 days ago by JacobRjett
A bit muddy in places, but fast.

Vertigoposted 96 days ago by JK2
A little bit greasy in places but all good

Ridgeline (+extension)/magic Carpet/live Wires/koru/sposted 96 days ago by -Reaper-
Mostly tacky surface, odd little bit of mud generally where the track is sheltered.
Great condition for a fun wee blat.

Fenceline To Holloway Roadposted 98 days ago by feist
Very wet and muddy.

Suit pants have looked better...

Starfish At Makara, New Work, Some Changes !posted 99 days ago by Robbie
Please take some care on the first 50 M of this track, as there has been new work.

It can be ridden fast and hard, look ahead, but PLEASE DO NOT SKID on this new surface. Ride the berms !!!

If you would like the deatils, keep reading:
The entance is wider, there is a grade reversal (dip) after the first tree, to assist drainange and provide some fun.
Further along the track swerves dips again, going slightly right then left, then right again into the realigned switchback ( which is wider and flatter) with a bermed exit.
After the switchback the track has been flattened before and after the step down, to create more line choices and spread the use on the track..
The aim of this work is to slow people gradually before the switchback, and make the turn less steep, while adding the fun of 3 or 4 turns that were not there before. This should stop the entrance to the corner being eroded into one rut by eliminating the fast straight line, downhill approach.
The Box drain at the top of the turn, and the under track pipe on the exit will also limit water erosion.

Enjoy.

Maidstone Dh – Upper Huttposted 99 days ago by big_d
Still under re-construction but ridable from top to bottom (with caution).

Wtp - 491/lower Spoon Hillposted 100 days ago by pinkmaggit
Relatively dry, tacky in some places. No large puddles or wet areas.
Trail packed in nicely now.

Mt Victoriaposted 100 days ago by wachtourak
Greasy in places after the rain last night. Mainly near the top. The track running down from the lookout is quite slippery (apart from the bit at the very top) til you get to the big rocky dip/intersection. Puddles in the usual places, ie the big one near the top etc. The steepish rooty bit heading down from the track along the ridgeline (just before you hit the clearing with the park bench) towards the lord of the rings sign is very slippery. Never stacked it on that bit of track before {Big Grin} Otherwise the rest (at least the tracks on the northwestern side that I rode) are tacky and grippy.

Labrynth - Wainui Trail Parkposted 101 days ago by Zoom
Riding really, really, well considering the numbers of ridings that have been on it in the last week. It is nice and sheltered and great to ride in a north westerly

Makara Grand Loopposted 102 days ago by ThingOne
Mint!.. Fast, slight moisture means extra grippy.

Carparts/ Roller Coaster/ Holloway Roadposted 102 days ago by feist
All very nice. Dry the whole way. Puddle before the last jump on the rollercoaster is dry with a clear track through the mud.

Sun is high enough in the morning that you avoid the worst sun strike.

Karitaneposted 102 days ago by JacobRjett
Karitane is sweet, some nice people have made the run in for the dirt jumps very nice and hard, no more big boggy mud in the run in. Sweet {Smile}

Koru/lazy Fernposted 102 days ago by Oli
Both dry and fast for steaming good times...

Scout Hallposted 102 days ago by psychavoc
Very dry. Dappled light conditions though {Huh}

Mt Victoriaposted 102 days ago by wachtourak
Dry as a bone almost everywhere, even the big puddle near the top is almost gone. Mint!

Rimutaka Incline Conditionposted 102 days ago by Nuttykiwi
anyone know the condition of this trail at the moment?

Salvationposted 103 days ago by Monolith
Salvation is drying out nicely - a couple of small boggy bits nearer the top, but generally in good nick. Nice to see the scrub has been cut back in places quite recently.

Deliveranceposted 103 days ago by sifter
The top's as rocky as ever. The rest is less slippery than it looks!

Jawbone (long Gully)posted 104 days ago by Jono
Very exposed to northerlies on resource consent. Mint once you get over the ridgeline. Somewhat tacky surface, but this will change if there is rain in the next 24 hours

Karapoti Todayposted 104 days ago by gunslinger
Very windy and wet, two major trees down, one just after the warm-up climb and one after the small creek crossing near the bottom of the rock garden. Downhill from the top of dopers is very muddy and cut up by 4WD traffic was like riding in snow, lots of fun. Muddy bogs are as normal...big and muddy.

Carparts At Lunchtime Todayposted 104 days ago by VERT
Mint, grippy, fast

Rollercoaster At Lunchtime Todayposted 104 days ago by VERT
Slippery and greasy in places, wet surface
