SMIM Course & Sponsor Updates

Run Leg
2009 will see a change in the run leg in that after leaving the beach and that "wee grunt" up through the sand and forest out onto the "tops". - the course will follow the high ground to the north and drop down into the Castaways complex before another climb back towards Coe Road and back into Waiuku to the finish at the Waiuku Rugby Club. All in all an interesting run leg to complete the interesting course.
Comments from many last year were "amazing landscape that you have in West Franklin!"

Electronic Timing by Active Pursuits
2008 saw the SMIM "go electronic" with the timing - we will use Bart and his team again this year. There were two hiccups last year.
One transponder was lost - the runner had the good fortune of looking at the finishing clock and his fathers stop watch confirmed his time! The transponder was found out on the course - good luck all round!
The other was where a competitor was holding "it" in his hand when crossing the finish - result no finishing time. The race brief states that they must be worn on the ankle!

Castaways Corporate Team Category
Castaways Adventures are getting behind the Corporate Teams Category with generous sponsorship and promoting the event.
If you are in a workplace / company that can get a team together - then go for it and enter. It could be just the thing to build a better place to work! Maybe you could challenge your industry competitors.

Whoops - I mistakenly placed this in Canterbury (typed "Waikuku" into Google Maps :p ) - it's in Waiuku south of Auckland, sorry for any confusion
