Sam Horgan (aka. SamultheCamul) has already started his entertaining race blogs here on vorb... nzcc-part-t125302.html

Hard to pick a clear favourite. Last year's winner Nathan Earle has moved up to the big time with Team Sky but his old Avanti Racing Team (previously Huon Salmon-Genesys Wealth Advisers) are strong and have last year's runner-up Ben Dyball. Drapac have stepped up to pro-conti level and have a strong team as usual, but then so do Budget Forklifts, GPM and Satalyst. And that's just the Aussies. Synergy-Baku and Rapha-Condor haven't come all this way to make up the numbers!!!

Would love to see a Kiwi take it out this year... going to be tough though!!

The last couple of years he's been racing under an Australian licence. We can still claim him as a Kiwi though!! :D

Great first day at the NZ Cycle Classic. Michael Vink (Budget Forklifts) smashed the rest of the field, beating out second placed Brenton Jones (Avanti Racing) by 4secs on the short 6km individual time trial circuit.

The goat gets a photo for being the character of the day. I'd parked up at Colyton and whipped out the laptop to do some editing and after a few minutes thought fark the wind is getting up... the gusts are rocking the car. Then a clunk (horn on metal) got my attention. WTF... there's a goat out there and he's quite persistently battering my car with his head!!!

No damage done. He was quite content doing battle with the tyre mostly.

4th stage and another bunch sprint. A lot of guys taken out in a crash at 300m to go. At the line it was Wouter Wippert (Drapac) from Tom Scully (NZ National Team) and Graham Briggs (Rapha Condor JLT).

Vink will take a 4 second lead into the final stage. But there's a few pure climbers within 30secs who have been invisible so far. The Budget Forklifts guys will be tested hard tomorrow on the Saddle climb if Vink is going to seal it.

Awesome ride by Michael Vink to lead from start to finish. Impressive on the Saddle Rd climb today too. Took third on the stage with stage winner James Oram the only rider to make a dent in his lead.
