2010 Track Nationals

Postby gydey on Fri 31/Dec/10 11:12am

Just saw that the Elite Track nationals and the age group Track nationals are a few days apart. What the hell are you doing BikeNZ? Why an earth dont you just eat humble pie, admit you cocked up last year, and put them all back together again so that the young riders can see the super stars in action!! Let them learn from the best so when its their turn to compete on the world stage, they have learned from our elite riders.

While you are at it, drop the Masters events as they are already catered for at Masters nationals!!

IMO, This is just absolutely ridiculous!!

Yeah, absolutely.

And for the juniors, maybe they should look at scheduling races in the afternoon instead of the evening - even though it wouldn't give them so long to recover after the morning efforts, at least they'd have a chance to get a proper night's sleep. The people who took the Wellington Centre kids away found our young people couldn't adjust to big meals at midday and late nights of high activity so their eating and sleep suffered.

In Western Australia, our Junior State Champinships are in February, and Senior State Championships are in December.
Junior National Champ's are in March, and Senior National Championships are in February (except for Madison National Championships, which are in December).
State Championships are used as a selection factor for State Teams, which are then eligible to contend Nationals.
Track Nationals require selection, whilst Road Nationals are open to all license holders.
Masters Championships are separate to this.

Our Junior / Senior Chamionships are split up largely due to the volume brought about by quantity of entrants contesting, and quantity events being contested. They are very full 2-3 day sessions for each set of Championships.
During the season, our Junior riders get to race at the same events as the Seniors most of the time, and often have support races at Senior Carnivals. They also have opportunities to train with Seniors, along with hefty Junior training programmes. They are fortunate to be able to see a good share of World Champions racing, which is a great motivator.

Generally racing (including Championships) will have events organised so as to achieve the earliest finishing times for the younger riders, so that they can get to bed in reasonable time.

Its the same here Eoin!! However our Elite nats were split away last year theoretically as we couldnt get UCI points from them, so they were put in early Feb..now they are back to 3 days before age group, so i see no reason why they arent combined again.

NZ is small and its been traditional that they are combined. NZ teams are selected off this event and other key events for elite and U19. Our state/centre events are the catalyst for selection to the Nats..so just the same mate.

Absolutely. If it's logistically feasable to fit them together, it is better to do so. The Juniors get a big buzz out of being a part of the Big Show.

So why do people always muck around with things that are working so well, Oh so corporate style, some body must have too busy getting the pats on the back to realise what a cluster **** they had all made last year!!!!.
Bring them all together again, and let the youngens enjoy the vibe of the elites.
