2010 Singlespeed Worlds, Rotorua, Nz Entries...

Postby Melissa_Theuriau on Tue 27th Jul 9:04am

Because of demand, Kiwi entries to the 2010 Singlespeed World Champs (powered by Kiwibikes and a great crew of friendly locals) in Rotorua on October 23 are open again for a strictly limited time.
The planned limit of 500 was reached back in June - however, a few people from overseas have had to DNS - so more room for the locals! http://www.sswc10nz.com/enter.php
If you just want to just enjoy the week, and not race, Party Animal tickets are also available (though filling up fast).
There is a growing "weapons of choice" gallery on the facebook page. Some interesting bikes coming from some interesting places can be viewed here (even if you aren't on facebook): http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 ... =121327af2 - check out the water buffalo and Koh from Japan's black beauty (currently our favourite)
And the video "the story so far..." is here: http://www.sswc10nz.com/news_detail.php?id=37

Hmmm ... what level of skill is needed. If I top out at Grade 3 tracks am I likely to be able to ride the course? Would I just be getting in the way (is it multi-lap)?

If your skill allows you to drink a can of beer ensuring most of it reaches your stomach, then I think you will be fine.

You don't even have to be able to do that - you can go around the long way, or just quaff a fizzy apple drink.

Grade 3 should mean you can handle things okay - there's a chance they'll use some harder tracks, but you can always walk the bits you don't like. :0

As someone who has raced...no, ridden...no, just turned up at an SSWC and started...if you are worried about strength, skill, competing etc then you are (with all due respect) missing the point....
My DNF bottle opener from Napa 08 is a prized possession - and so are the memories of arriving at the 1st single track (a rocky steep climb) and walking with my bike up the climb catching up with folk from all over the world.
Wrote a thing for Bruce at NZMTBr about SSWC08 and mentioned that the best way to get around the course (slowly, in my case) was with a (paper) number plate on my bike.
Stopped and had a beer with some really nice guys from San Jose, watched Decker on a hard tail Giant and in a black bondage Borat-kini and cape totally deal to someone called Mark Weir(??) in full SC (yawn!) kit and on a factory ride.
Drank a wine or 2 with some legends of MTB at the finish line (and not just SS legends)...
And in 2010, this is happening in your own backyard! As Ned Overend said before kicking off at SSWC09 in Durango: when it's in your own backyard, why wouldn't you...
