No :) I was hoping there was going to be an "opt out" section, for people who are looking white and pale when thinking about doing Ridgeline and they could take the 4X4 track down to Ridgeline Ext.
you will have to check with vert but I don't think going down snake chamer has ever been consided part of the Grandloop and this is the grand loop challenge

It's certainly part of my grand loop - I doubt I'd ever ride Ridgeline... I guess it depends whether this event is in the spirit of having a go & raising money for MPS, or genuinely seeing who's fastest on a set course (and still raising money!)...

To DrewBroadley - what level does your wife ride at?

Just picking up from what Vert said - it's likely to get dark-ish for the slower riders (like me  if I was riding) for the return trip - and meeting Swigg/Starfish for the first time in the dark might not be much fun. Not trying to put her off at all - just something that more experienced/confident riders don't always think of.

However - only you and she can make that call :) . I've made some big assumptions about her riding ability... If she's fast and brave I have no problem with eating my words!!

I only bring it up as it was mentioned as something the Wellington MTB Ladies group was going to ask about as some riders may not be 100% confident down there.

Good call Sweet_P. Does it really matter? She will get a time, probably a split like everyone else, even if she didn't do the full course.

Exactly sweet_p, we're attracted to participating for the support it gives for Makara. Either way, our $5 will make it into the entry money bag, or the donations box.

I hadn't planned on there being a opt. out option. This is really a race to find your fastest time around the most common grand loop that people ride.

I would love to have an opt out option but also feel that if the rider is not experienced I dont want them riding in the possible dark near the bottom of the track.
And if I did give the option for her to ride down Snake Chamer she will still need to jump onto 1 of the tracks to get to the bottom and it could be dark by then.

If I had thought about it I could have had 2 Grand Loops, 1 that went to the top and the other to ridgeline extension. This could be something we could do if we hold the race again.

Okay, I've given her a a heads up and she's going to pass. We'll just ride on the Sunday instead, will be a shame as we'll miss out on the atmosphere.

I marshalled last year at the top of Sally Alley and had a great time. ;)
But you'd still need lights for the descent.

I'm in.

Various drop off/pick up/wife/child/jiggery pokery has ensured my attendance.

Thanks for organising this, Pete. Good man. May the wind be always at your back

I hope lots of keeners make it out.

How does it work for take-off? Can people opt to start earlier to avoid traffic incidents. Fast riders like Tony "The Tiger" Keith will need a clean run.

Times are kinda decided on based on previous events etc...

last time it was Karapoti times, and some other stuff. But if someone is faster than someone in front of them, it should only really slow down the person in front, as they have to pull off* to let them through.

Not ridden for 6wks now. I'm hoping this event will help kick-start me a bit! Should be a good outing. Puking on Aratihi ftw.
